Happy Monday, folks! I hope you’ve had a chance to listen in to the latest episode; it’s one of my favourites lately. Not only is the title, “Ooh-La-Loire”, a work of literary genius (in my humble opinion), but it’s such a great mix of all kinds of stuff.
In general, episode-to-episode the show sort of naturally slides along a scale of booze/non-booze content as a reflection of the goings-on of our actual lives. Episode 24 has a real juicy jumble of discussion. From my side at least, I had a really great booze week, and I also smashed through a couple of books and saw a profoundly incredible stage musical. It felt really full.
We actually just recorded episode 25 yesterday, and whilst you don’t need to worry about that for a couple of days, it’s interesting to compare the ebb and flow of, well, stuff. It will be a huge boozy episode, but outside of drinking I didn’t have much else to add. It’s a weird feeling to be caught out on recording day and realise you didn’t really do much else except go to work, and hang out with friends and family for the week. I sometimes start to verge on feeling like it’s a bit of a failure, actually.
Which is total bollocks, obviously.
Having a week without voracious reading and mind-blowing theatre is hardly unusual. And spending quality time with friends and family is the best! When I dig down to what the core of this feeling of failure is, really, I think it’s that I’m not paying enough attention to the little, in-between content-consumption moments that make an impact in those weeks. I gobble my social media feeds up and forget about them within minutes.
But I’ve just gone through my browser history and there was so much I got joy from this week! Like this lovely video of Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant on Graham Norton . Or this thread by writer Rachel Syme on Twitter, and all of its incredible replies. Heck, even the new Cats trailer and all of its hilarious, hilarious reactions was so fun.
This seems to be a bit of a theme Cass and I keep coming back to this year. What are we consuming? What are we taking joy from? And how are we trying to change our habits and attitudes to focus more on what serves us? It’s all still definitely a work in progress for me.
I guess at the end of this long ramble, I’m just so happy that you’re choosing to spend a little of your own time with this podcast. It means everything to have your support and your time. It’s no small thing, so thank you!
